Eddy Kamuanga Ilunga’s Paintings. Clash of Culture & Technology

Eddy Kamuanga Ilunga is an artist based in the Democratic Republic of the Congo who creates oil and acrylic works of art. His work blends traditional iconography and technological symbology.

This series of work is called “Mangbetu”. Mangbetu refers to a large group of people in the northwestern Democratic Republic of Congo.

These works of art comment on a native culture persuaded into modernization. The DRC is the worlds largest exporter of Coltan; a raw material used in computer chips and mobile phones.

Ilunga brings together modern industry and traditional culture, combining vibrant fabrics, symbolic objects and daily rituals into confrontation with the digital images of the present day. And not to mention his work has been shown across he world in galleries and museums  at the tender age of 26! I don’t know about you but this is a guy whose work must be kept up with!

Hope you enjoy!
